Facial Skin Care

There are right ways and there are wrong ways that the skin should be taken care of. Proper skin care is an essential part of caring for the face and the skin – unfortunately, there are many people that are unaware of proper facial skin care and therefore the skin becomes neglected and prone to breakouts. There are proper skin care routines which should be adhered to daily to ensure that your skin is in the best condition possible.

There are three steps to ensuring that you are taking care of your skin and literally putting your best face forward. These four steps are:

Skin Cleansing
Skin cleansing should occur on a daily basis. Over cleansing the skin can cause it to become sensitive which can lead to breakouts. To find a cleanser that works for your skin, determine your skin type. This may take trial and error to find a cleanser that leaves your skin at its best, but it will be obvious when you finally find the right balance for your skin.

If you have sensitive skin, you should use a cream based cleanser. Those with oily skin should use a cleanser that is gel based. It is important to avoid using soap on the skin, as it can easily dry out the sensitive facial skin and lead to breakouts and the skin becoming irritated.

Exfoliations
Many people skip this step as they do not realize the importance of skin exfoliation – especially on the face. Skin exfoliation should be completed once weekly as it can help to remove the dead skin from the face. Dead skin cells are often a source of bacteria and can cause breakouts in the skin. These dead skin cells are removed from the top layer of the skin and can increase the longevity and appearance of the skin as it has a rejuvenating effect.

There are three types of exfoliating treatments; there are those that are completed with the use of abrasive scrubbers, which are often completed at home. Those that are completed in the office of a cosmetic dermatologist and use chemical peels to rejuvenate the skin and those that contain retinoid which remove the top layer of the skin while adding collagen to the skin.

Moisturize the Skin
One of the most essential parts of the skin care routine is to ensure that the skin is moisturized. Especially during the winter and summer months when skin is exposed to cold and sun, it is important to use a moisturizer, which can seal the moisture into the skin. Without it, the skin can become dry and irritated.

It has been recommended by skin care experts that the only people who should not use moisturizers are those facing acne problems, as moisture can irritate the breakouts.

To find a good moisturizer, choose one that contains a high level of SPF which can protect the skin, regardless of the season. The sun provides the highest level of damage to the skin and therefore it is important to protect our skin from this factor.

If your moisturizer does not contain sunscreen that it is important to use sunscreen on a daily basis. Be sure to use sunscreen that is specified for facial use, as it contains less oil. Those sunscreens that are made for the body can lead to instantly clogged pores and unattractive breakouts.

Take these measures to take care of the skin on your face, after all, once you lose the elasticity, collagen and usefulness it can be difficult to regain these factors. By cleansing, preparing, exfoliating and moisturizing the skin you can ensure that you will be protected, day in and day out.
